This piece dates to the 1950s to 1960s. Known as "The Pipe Gadget" (and later referred to in modern catalogs as the Classic Pipe Gadget or Gadget Junior), this ingenious pocket companion is one of the most celebrated and enduring luxury pipe tool designs of the 20th century.

This vintage mid-century specimen is an exceptional collector's item, particularly due to the presence of its original, era-specific retail packaging. Designed to safely stow a pipe smoker's soot-covered tools within a sleek, closed cylinder, it protects fine garment pockets from ash and dottle residue while remaining incredibly compact.

The main body of the tool is constructed from a polished, jet-black vulcanite sleeve featuring Dunhill's unmistakable, inlaid ivory "White Spot" emblem positioned just above the base ring. The tool functions as a multi-part precision assembly:

  • The flanged silver-tone base serves as a perfectly flat, stable tamper for compressing the tobacco bed evenly during a smoke.

  • Unscrewing the components reveals a hidden, nested internal pick and spoon scraper crafted from nickel-plated brass. This allows for clean, precise clearing of the chamber walls and draft hole without damaging the underlying briar.
