This estate piece is a fascinating, brilliantly preserved milestone from the mid-century space-age design movement: a vintage Kaywoodie Filter Plus. Introduced in the late 1950s and produced into the 1960s, the Filter Plus was Kaywoodie's ultra-modern answer to the metal-stemmed system pipe craze pioneered by brands like Falcon and Kirste. This system featured a fully interchangeable briar bowl perched on a lightweight aluminum chassis, coupled with an internal condensation chamber engineered to accept a standard cigarette filter or paper filter. Today, these futuristic engineering pieces are highly prized by collectors of vintage American pipe history for their unique mechanical design, incredible ease of maintenance, and retro aesthetic.

The stummel configuration consists of a beautifully rounded, smooth briar bowl thread-mounted onto a sleek, satin-finished aluminum shank and base. The briar bowl features a classic, honey-toned golden-orange stain that highlights a lovely, dense display of swirling bird's-eye and cross-grain wrapping completely around its plump walls. The rim top is elegantly rounded and polished, accentuating the clean symmetry of the bowl. The sweeping aluminum shank gives the pipe an exceptionally clean, streamlined silhouette. It transitions smoothly into a short black vulcanite saddle stem that proudly bears Kaywoodie's iconic white clover logo inlay crisply on top.

The physical measurements for this mid-century system piece are:

Overall Length: 5.65 inches
Chamber Width: 0.74 inches
Chamber Depth: 1.25 inches
