This cigarette case comes from Orlik, the respected London firm founded by Louis Orlik in 1899 and best known for its English pipes and smoking accessories. The case has a warm tan-brown leather exterior with a fine crosshatched grain, brass-bound edges and a mustard-coloured interior bearing the gold “ORLIK / OLD BOND STREET” stamp. Inside, the original leather retaining strap holds the cigarettes securely in the traditional flat, book-opening format. It shows an honest patina from age and use, including marks and colour variation to the leather, interior spotting and wear to the metal frame, all of which are shown in the photographs. A handsome and practical piece of British tobacconiana from a period when a cigarette case was considered as much a personal accessory as a wallet or lighter.
