This estate piece is a superb, highly collectible example of Scandinavian pipe design: a vintage Stanwell Royal Bark, carved in the hard-to-find 695 shape. The Royal Bark series is highly regarded among enthusiasts of classic Danish factory briar for its deep, uniformly craggy sandblast finish, which mimics the natural texture of tree bark while retaining a very comfortable, tactile feel in the hand.
The stummel is sculpted into a tall, exceptionally clean straight Chimney or elongated Billiard silhouette, showcasing perfectly linear proportions. The bowl is treated to a beautiful dark espresso sandblast finish, contrasting wonderfully with a smooth, warm walnut-stained undercarriage along the shank. The crisp nomenclature stamped on the smooth underside cleanly reads Stanwell Royal Bark 695. The long, slender straight shank transitions seamlessly into a glossy black vulcanite taper stem featuring Stanwell's subtle, classic logo stamp on the side.
The precise physical measurements for this Danish classic are:
Overall Length: 5.90 inches
Chamber Width: 0.75 inches
Chamber Depth: 1.85 inches
With a standard 0.75-inch chamber width and an impressive, deep 1.85-inch chamber depth, this Chimney shape is an absolute dream for straight Virginias, complex Virginia-Perique flakes, or dense navy cuts. The exceptionally tall internal architecture allows tobacco to be packed in layers, promoting a slow, progressive burn where the natural sugars of the leaf distill and concentrate intensely as the smoke travels down the long column. This delivers an incredibly rich, cool, and flavor-packed smoke that builds in complexity toward the bottom of the bowl.
